Moving Forward
My name is Tami. I am 37 years old and I am going through a divorce in the middle of a world pandemic. In a world that feels like it’s falling apart, I am living a personal world that already has. Promises have been broken. Dreams have been shattered.
Destruction. Isolation. Loneliness. Fear.
What I once believed was my future, has now become questions of a seemingly failed past.
Sometimes, reality can be so cruel.
I am a mom of two boys. Levi is 13 and Colt is 10. They are remarkable kids, yet their journeys are unique. At the age of 7, Colt was diagnosed with epilepsy. At the age of 10, Levi was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
Pain. Suffering. Despair. Fear.
The past 3 years have been the hardest years of my life. One of the greatest challenges has been walking my kids through real, deep to the core, gut wrenching pain and trauma, while also learning how to cope with it all within my own heart and mind.
Sometimes reality can be so unfair.
We are all walking through life with experiences that have shaped us into the people we are today. We all have futures that are unknown and untold.
We all have stories.
And when life knocks us down, we also have choices. We can give up and be drawn into the depths of depression, anger and bitterness. Or we can move forward towards healing and wholeness.
I don’t have my life all figured out. I don’t have things nicely put together with a bow on top. I definitely don’t have the perfect life like I thought I once did.
And that’s okay. My story isn’t over.
A friend recently explained how this season of my life is like train tracks. On one rail is grief, sorrow, suffering and pain. On the other rail is peace, excitement, joy and hope. I’m balancing between both, with a desire to move forward on the adventure that God has for me.
Jesus came to heal the broken, to set the captives free and to give full and abundant life. He takes our hurts and offers us healing. He takes our fears and grows our faith. He takes our shattered dreams and turns them into new dreams.
“Jesus came to heal the broken, to set the captives free and to give full and abundant life. ”
He makes beauty from the ashes.
I want to welcome you to take this journey with me. My hope is that by sharing my story, it encourages you to unveil, discover and share your own.
Tami
